The world wonders at me!

I'm having a nice day overall- These little cuties are mighty tasty and my stats homework went really well this afternoon. Now i'm just cleaning up the apartment and getting ready to cook up some trader joe's pizza for dinner. There was an unfortunate hitch this morning- waking up and realizing that i had to get laundry done today. I really don't like doing laundry :P Tomorrow is more homework and studying, I can't wait!

I am a master

This was really hard! So was swapping the touchpad on my wind. But i did them both today. So who wins the challenge? ME. Emmanuel this is only because i've known you since i was 7 :) Have a great weekend, i hope the mario stuff wasn't too annoying to anyone who never played it. Now i'm going to go eat all the leftover candy.

Reach for the stars

What a day! I don't think i've ever been this bored before, i felt like i was falling asleep in every class. I got a little perked up at work because there was a Pom beverage representative on campus giving out free Pom coffee drinks, so the caffeine was nice but ultimately left me sleepy again. Tonight i watched the movie Madagascar on blu-ray with Bunny. It's a really funny movie and it's interesting because i have it on crummy vcd which is like a dvd except spread out on 2 cd's to make it cheaper. The quality difference is HUGE! As a visual comparison there is no denying the picture superiority of blu-ray.

Let's take it up another step

This climb to the top is making the week interesting. Today was my first Non-Linear Dynamics and Chaos exam- i think i did well and that put a good spin on the rest of the week. Next up is a short paper for philosophy and then a test in Probability and Statistics. Feeling good about the challenge contest- feel free to participate and add to the other ones.

This is just the beginning

Studying for my math test tomorrow and the room just got crazy loud for a minute. I've accepted picture challenges from Joe and Eman, but haven't taken those pics yet- this is a pre-cursor. I'm understanding my math for the most part, it's just a little tedious so it's taking a while.

Academia first then Challenges!

At least most of the time. I spent the dreary day studying for a Non-Linear Dynamics and Chaos test coming up on Tuesday. The library looked nice in the light as i was leaving. I'm going to try something new to garner some interactivity between myself and anyone who reads this Blog daily- i want to try having a little challenge contest; meaning readers post a subject or object or basically anything appropriate and in line with this Blog's intent and i'll try to take a picture of it. So since it is a new week- i'll take challenges until thursday wherein i'll them attempt to photograph one or more by the end of the coming weekend. I hope this works out. So here are the Rules: -Leave a comment with a REASONABLE AND FAMILY FRIENDLY challenge -I will read and moderate comments and post the challenges that are acceptable -I will also respond with which challenges I am accepting -Please sign your name after your comment so I know who to respond to -Also - I know most of you who read this blog - so maybe prizes are in order for the best/most unique challenges with the best outcome.

La vie en bleu

I have absolutely nothing to post tonight, but i managed this neat shot by sticking my camera lens up to the mouth of a bottle of bawls soda, which as you can see, is blue. It's also a very tasty energy drink. At any rate, today was quiet and filled with some shopping on Haight street, chowing on some pizza, and exploring the history of space flight with Bunny. I think i may buy the rest of the When We Left Earth series- it's something I've always had an interest in and it really is amazing to watch. Tomorrow i enter studyland again :) joy and rapture. Hope everyone has a good weekend. I'm also toying with some ideas for the blog- details coming soon.

Sculptures in the sky

The sculpture garden on the roof of Kalmanovitz hall at USF. I actually don't like the sculptures now that I've seen them, but the area itself is really serene. I sold my old camera phone today using craigslist- a free classified ad website for those who don't know. Bunny and i have also been starting a new documentary series, When We Left Earth, a discovery channel series about the NASA missions. The stories are really interesting, especially with the original astronauts talking about their experiences 40 years later. Tomorrow is relaxing saturday, and sunday is study day :)

Corned beef and cabbage

Tonight Bunny's dad took her and me to see The Chieftans at the Davies Symphony Hall. While I have never really experienced Irish folk music before, I am now a total fan and it's just a matter of time before my first jig. With our astonishing 13th row seats, we had fantastic views of the spectacles on stage including (but not limited to) flutes, pipes, fiddles, harps, drums, baudron, irish dancing, Ottawa river dancing, mouth music, and bagpipes. Fantastic concert and a wonderful night, i hope that i can see them again sometime.

The secret garden

In 4 years at usf, I've spent time in all buildings at least twice with the sole exception of this garden. While Bunny tells me it used to be open to the public, this garden is now part of Loyola House- the residence for all of the priests on campus. I did have the opportunity to spend one windy afternoon in the garden during my art class as a sophomore. In fact, that course lead to my first meeting with Bunny soon after. Nothing special tonight, but tomorrow Bunny's dad is taking Bunny and me to see The Chieftans, an Irish folk group at the Davies Symphony Hall. I'm really excited since I've never really experienced real Irish music. Oh, i did buy grapes at the store and they're yummy, so that was a highlight today.

Quick tour

So I've been fixing up my room a bit and am pretty pleased with how everything came together. Everything is pretty organized and calming :) I'll also post up a link to the music in the background- i love the song. Find it here

I'm the ace of cakes

Valentine's day tastes so much sweeter with a strawberry and chocolate cake. Bunny and I spent the afternoon in Xarts while she finished her sculpture and we listened to Pandora radio on my laptop. We had fun singing along and playing with clay :)

Rain rain go away

It's been raining all weekene. But at least i still get tomorrow off :) Cleaning was completed today and i like the slight changes i made to my furniture arrangement last night. My room feels a little cozier without feeling cramped. I got some reading for class done and tomorrow is set aside for math homework. Now i'm watching a doc called Revolution OS about the history of GNU and Linux- already i'm seeing how differently these guys are compared to the portrayals of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs in Pirates of Silicon Valley- Linux was founded on freedom and community rather than authoritarian control of software. I'm glad the so much of the software i use is open source with the same ideology.

Spread the love

Happy Valentine's Day! I hope everyone had someone to say "I love you" to. I love Bunny, my mom, sisters, grandma and aunts :) I wish everyone the best, but don't think that love only lasts one day per year, spread the good feelings every day- like I try my best to :)

Wind and Rain

My wind netbook has a new look thanks to my favorite recently discovered software Rainmeter. All the graphical details of the desktop are placed by me and carefully integrated for a really clean and tranquil (to me at least) look. This desktop uses elements from hud.vision and supercolossal (the clock). Some other geek trivia- today, Friday the 13th 2009 saw unix time ( a clock system for unix operating systems) reach the value 1234567890 at 3:31:30 this afternoon. I didn't attend any parties, but i'm sure they would've been interesting lol.

Mirror mirror on the wall

Just goofing around with my mirrors. Neat effect to get 4 reflections with 3 panels tho. Today was LONG. I got a ton of work done in ITS which was sweet- i love hearing that the doc i just finished is perfect. This evening i had to write my first semi-paper for race issues- 750 words exactly. It took longer than i wanted it to, but i think i wrote a good piece and hopefully the prof agrees. Quiet day tomorrow and i'm looking forward to a nice weekend with Bunny since neither of us has too much homework to worry about.

I can see clearly now the rain is gone

It came back 20 minutes later. It was really rainy all day and kind of miserable. Class was average with no real incident except that my seat was stolen in psychology because i didn't get to class my usual 20 minutes early- who steals a seat anyway? The rest of the night was normal as well. I liked top chef and finally got to see a new episode when it aired. The rest of the week is quiet, but i have a short paper due on friday.

SOBAM

I love that that's the name of the school of business and management, it sounds so cool to me. I've actually only ever been in the building once, but it's got really modern class rooms and nice furnishings. I finally declared my psych minor today- so i'm getting a BS in mathematics and minoring in psychology- an interesting combination as pointed out by the psych chairwoman. I did extra psych classes because physics was getting too stressful and i was really enjoying psych. When i found math i really liked being in that department, but the psychology classes are still some of the best ones I've taken at USF.

How to control the universe with harmony

One of my most useful gadgets - my remote control has its grips in every gadget i own that can use one. My tv, stereo, computer, dvd player, photo frame, vcr and hdmi switchbox all work great with this remote by Logitech and Harmony. Class was fine again, i got a B+ on my first assignment in philosophy of race, and the prof said that my group, for whom i wrote the response, was one of the best. I also was participatory in math. Hehe, long words.

The best things in life are from Nana

Yesterday i was woken by the doorbell as the postman delivered a package. Contained within was a deliciously large box of homemade cookies from my wonderful grandmother :) These have been my favorite cookies my entire life, and it's always like christmas getting a package in the mail from Nana. I'm also really happy that my math homework was deceptively simple and that after i got the knack of it, everything was done quickly. After that i spent the afternoon grading papers with a pot of raspberry tea (real tea leaves) and some cookies. It was a very nice sunday afternoon overall.

Caged like mechanical animals

I took a long walk this afternoon and shot this photo of the bus depot on presidio. I was fascinated by the lines of the fence, the branches of the bush and the rows of the buses intertwined in an organic and industrial stalemate. Tonight i saw the film Supersize Me- about a man who eats mcdonald's 3 meals a day for 30 days as an examination of what the food would do to him. The results are pretty scary as he risks liver failure by the end of the month. It takes over year for him to recover fully, and I've come away with a better understanding of my own philosophy- that food is good in moderation, but overindulgence on any level is harmful.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Two years ago i bought my first pair of Puma sneakers, the black and green ones seen at right. They were comfy, stylish, and pretty much my favorite sneakers ever. Well, that was 2 years ago, so i felt that an upgrade was in order. Enter my new pair of Puma's, seen at left, now sporting an orange lining and black leather instead of canvas. I've been wearing them for a few hours and they're just as comfortable, but probably a bit more durable. Unfortunately for me, this style slip on is now really hard to track down as it is a few years old. Hopefully in the time it takes for me to wear these out, Puma will come out with another great style. Today i heard the last of the math professorship candidates talk about fractals, the really pretty infinite recursion functions that look the same when you zoom in on them. I'm really happy when I actually understand what math people are talking about even when I'm not that familiar with the specific topic. I guess that means I'm part of the math geek club after all :) Nonetheless, my week went well, and this weekend should give me some deserved time to relax.

Rainy days

A gloomy day in San Francisco- kind of a sleepy day overall. I really don't have anything special to discuss, i played a bit of jewel quest 2, basically bejeweled with an indiana jones themed twist.

Do you hear a who?

Behold the infinite beauty of a blu-ray movie :) i'm still stunned by the quality of the picture, even when paused. Horton Hears a Who is a really cute funny movie, better than the live action Grinch movie, though both starring Jim Carey. In other stuff, my new laptop battery lasted through both of my classes without needing a charger, which was just perfect.

I think it's haunted

This is the hallway where my apartment lies. Whether it's the ancient elevator or the noisy garbage chute, my building makes a lot of weird noises reminiscent of a cheesy haunted house movie. Statistics is a pretty easy course thus far and i don't mind brushing up on the combinatorics i learned last semester. But dynamics was really boring today. Classes and work is going well overall though, and i'm still pretty happy with all of my daily activites.

How long can it last?

I realize this is an odd angle to see my netbook, but i'm highlighting the new 6-cell battery that just arrived today, which should increase my battery life from an hour and a half-ish to well over 4 hours :). Now i don't have to rely on an outlet to dictate where i sit in class, granted i like where i do sit and will continue to do so. The only downside is that yes, physically this battery is larger as well, making my case fit rather snugly, but still neatly on the Wind. Also visible in this picture are the Google dot stickers I got from MacWorld that now adorn the front of my 'book. That was the most eventful part of the day- everything else was just Moday.

Phones of many flavors

I've had many many cell phones in the past- over a dozen- but they've come and gone over the years, so I don't have all of them anymore. These are 4 that I've kept around- from left to right: my heavily modified razr- black with gold accents; then a sony ericsson t68-the first color phone with bluetooth, and one of my favorite designs ever; next is a motorola v80, one of the most unique phones I've owned with a swiveling open mechanism and color changing bezel; finally, my sony ericsson k800- the phone i had prior to this k850, and until this my favorite phone of all time. Today i pretty much avoided the super bowl and watch star trek instead. Also, i was angered to see that the economic crunch is effecting my building's laundry services- at least that's the only explanation i can offer for the .25 increase in cost for a load of laundry to 2.50 for washing and drying.
