The Zen of Tea

Bunny was wonderful enough to let me post these photos that we took at Samovar Tea Lounge at Page & Laguna in San Francisco. I know about the spot because of founder Kevin Rose. Bunny and I started off our Sunday brunch with Bai Mudan white tea, a nice light and carefully prepared brew. Bunny had a quinoa waffle with vanilla syrup and I had jook - a slow cooked rice dish with smoked duck. The waffle was light and fluffy and the syrup was amazing! My jook was a creamy, ricey, stew-like dish with lots of little bits on the side to add in like ginger, scallions, hot sauce, etc. The atmosphere was perfect for a Sunday brunch too; it was sunny and warm (a little breezy) and the zen-lounge vibe in the restaurant made it a stellar morning. I can't wait to go back and try more of the teas and food.

And interestingly enough, while we were eating our brunch, we turned around and Kevin Rose himself, who had apparently been dining in the back room, walked out of the restaurant. It was pretty exciting for  me and even though I didn't get a chance to speak to him, I did send him a message to him via Twitter (and he replied!).
